OPA is thrilled to announce the launch of our new Pharmacist Administered Injectables Certificate Training Program, previously known as Long-Acting Injectables Training Certificate Program, with the first opportunity to be held on April 8, 2026 at the Hilton Columbus at Easton.
We have revamped the entire certificate program to reflect the updates made to Section 4729.45 of the Revised Code and recent updates to rule 4729:1-3-03 of the Administrative Code (effective 1/7/2026).
This update to the rule has added several new drugs/drug classes that a pharmacist is authorized to administer, by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection in the state of Ohio, as long as the drug that is to be administered has been prescribed by a physician, certified nurse-midwife, clinical nurse specialist, or certified nurse practitioner; is administered in accordance with a prescriber-authorized protocol; and the individual to whom the drug was prescribed has an ongoing physician-patient or nurse-patient relationship with the physician or nurse.
The full list now includes:
- An addiction treatment drug administered in a long-acting or extended-release form, which may include any medication indicated for relapse prevention. NOTE: This includes the administration of controlled substances (e.g., buprenorphine) used to treat addiction in a long-acting or extended-release form.
- An antipsychotic drug administered in a long-acting or extended-release form.
- A human immunodeficiency virus treatment or prevention drug administered in a long-acting or extended-release form.
- Hydroxyprogesterone caproate for pregnant women.
- Medroxyprogesterone acetate for non-pregnant women.
- Cobalamin (including the administration of cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, or any other FDA-approved B12 injection).

APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Administration by Pharmacy Technicians
Ohio Pharmacists Association, an APhA licensed partner, is offering APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Administration by Pharmacy Technicians. This program was originally developed by Washington State University (WSU) and revised through a partnership between WSU and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). The Pharmacy-Based Immunization Administration by Pharmacy Technicians training program explores the expanding role of the pharmacy technician by providing additional skills training to administer immunizations.
This two-part program emphasizes a health care team collaboration between pharmacists and technicians which seeks to improve population health by increasing immunization rates in states that allow technicians to immunize. Composed of an online self-study component combined with a live seminar that teaches hands-on immunization techniques, this program will provide a total of six hours of continuing education for technicians.
Registration Fee:
OPA Technician Member $250
