OPA's Annual Conference is coming to you, April 16 - June 16, 2021! 

Do you have your 40 hours (4.0 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) to report by September 15, 2021 for license renewal? The 2021 OPA Annual Conference will offer more than 40 hours of CPE on-demand from April 16 to June 16, 2021! Speakers of selected programs will be available following their presentations April 16 to 18 for Q&A.

Two hours of medication errors/patient safety and 1.5 hours of jurisprudence CPE will be included. COVID-19 related CPE will focus on pharmacist testing, vaccines, impact of pharmacy services on LTC medication management, and the impact on telepharmacy and pediatric vaccinations. Clinical topics will include cardiovascular diseases, continuous glucose monitoring, nonopioid pain management, migraine treatment, trans health, smoking cessation, insomnia, new drugs and more. Important updates on Provider Status implementation in Ohio from the Ohio Department of Medicaid and practicing pharmacists will be included as well. The Legislative Update, Research and Innovative Forums, poster session, Business Plan Competition, and Preceptor Development sessions will not disappoint. The OPA Annual Conference 2021 app/platform is only available for registered attendees. All of the great Conference content is available whether you use the desktop platform or the enhanced app on your mobile device- you can attend from anywhere!

MOBILE DEVICE: After you’ve registered for the Conference, download the free Attendify app from the App Store/Google Play. Open the Attendify app and search for the “OPA Annual Conference 2021” event. When you open the OPA Annual Conference 2021 app for the first time, you will need to sign in using the email that you used to register for the conference. Create an app profile with your name and a password. A verification email will be sent to you. Once acknowledged, you will have access to all of the OPA Annual Conference 2021 content.

Provider Status Best Practices Roundtable

Learn more about Provider Status implementation in Ohio, since this will impact your future practice. A virtual roundtable of pharmacists participating in pilot programs around the state will share best practices for initiating and incorporating cognitive services into
their workflow. They will include patient perceptions, policy and procedural changes, and billing practices.

COVID-19 Vaccine Review and Update

This session will provide an overview of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) identification of the burden of the coronavirus worldwide pandemic, as well as vaccine development. Recommendations from the CDC
Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, including target populations, efficacy, dosage, distribution and storage of vaccines, will be presented along with how to overcome COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy to increase immunization rates.

Jenni Wai, R.Ph., MBA from the State Board of Pharmacy will present information regarding changes to Ohio laws/rules in the last year, and will review commonly asked questions about outpatient pharmacy inspections, COVID-19 response efforts, vaccine administration, consult agreements and more.

Innovative Pharmacy Business Plan Competition 2020

In this annual competition, students have been invited to submit business plans detailing the loan request, mission statement ,detailed description of the business, marketing plan and financial reports for buying a pharmacy or developing innovative pharmacy services. Three finalist teams will present their plans to a panel of judges. Hear what the students envision for the future of pharmacy and get ideas for your own practice.

Student Law Review
Donnie Sullivan, professor at OSU College of Pharmacy, will provide a great review of pharmacy law to help prepare students for the
State Board law exam. This review will be pre-recorded and available on-demand until June 16. It will benefit students who will be taking
their Board exam soon, as well as students currently in school.

Medication Safety: Minimizing Patient Harm
When asked why pharmacists pursued a career in healthcare, most pharmacists respond, “To help people.” Minimizing  patient harm is a key component of good healthcare outcomes. In this medication safety session, you will learn Just Culture principles and the role
pharmacists play.

Hot Topics for New Practitioners and Beyond
There can be many opportunities and challenges that arise for new and experienced practitioners. How each situation is handled is essential to moving forward in your career. Learn from a variety of pharmacists how to embrace opportunities, overcome challenges,
and be ahead of change.

Continuing Education Credit 
This Conference is targeted to all pharmacists and student pharmacists. The Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) portion is coordinated by the Ohio Pharmacists Foundation. To receive CPE credit for an on-demand session, pharmacists must view the entire video, complete the post-activity quiz and speaker evaluation, and claim credit in the virtual platform. For live-stream CPE sessions, pharmacists must view the session in its entirety, make note of the code provided by the speaker, complete the speaker evaluation, and use the provided code to claim credit in the virtual platform. You will need your NABP e-Profile ID number to register for CPE credit in the virtual platform. CPE credit will be claimed by attendees for each session completed.CPE Statements of Credit can be printed from the CPE monitor. Learning objectives for each of the continuing pharmacy education programs can be found on the OPA website at www.ohiopharmacists.org. All CPE sessions are knowledge-based activities unless otherwise indicated.
