Well-Being Resources

As a pharmacist, caring for others is your responsibility. OPA recognizes that it is sometimes hard to also care for yourself. Below are some online resources on well-being for healthcare professionals provided by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).

The NAM online platform provides resources that discuss the causes of burnout, effects of burnout, and solutions from burnout for the healthcare professional. The platform also has various links to in-depth case studies that provide actionable solutions for promoting well-being and reducing burnout. In addition, there are “Clinical Well-Being Resources During COVID-19.”

The ASHP platform provides the opportunity to take a pledge with other pharmacy professionals to commit to improving well-being and reducing burnout. It also provides the opportunity to share your own workforce well-being stories, as well as provides access to well-being and resilience resources to review.

APhA's Well-being Index for Pharmacists (WBI) is a validated screening tool developed by the Mayo Clinic to longitudinally evaluate your fatigue, depression, burnout, anxiety, and both mental and physical quality of life. A similar tool has been used to measure and track physician, nurse, and other health care providers’ burnout—as they face many of the same burnout issues as pharmacists. This survey, just for pharmacists, only takes moments to complete, is anonymous, and provides insights into your well-being over time.
