Pharmacist Training for Long-Acting Injectables - September 21

OPA Office 2674 Federated Blvd, Columbus

OPA is pleased to announce its first live training program on September 21, 2018 for pharmacists who plan to administer the following long-acting or extended-release dangerous drugs permitted by Ohio Revised Code 4729.45:

  1. opioid antagonist for drug addiction or alcohol dependence;
  2. antipsychotic drugs;
  3. hydroxyprogesterone for pregnant women;
  4. medroxyprogesterone for non-pregnant women; and
  5. cobalamin (including cyanocobalamin or hydroxycobalamin).

The live training will be held at the OPA office in Columbus, and includes sessions on implementing administration of antipsychotic medications in pharmacy practice; naltrexone administration and the required testing; and sterile preparation and administration technique for administering these medications. The administration technique session will include SC injections in the upper arm and abdomen, and IM injections in the deltoid and gluteal muscles. Completion of the home-study lessons on LAI antipsychotics and naltrexone is required before attending the live session.

Home-study lessons on each of the five categories of dangerous drugs are available for purchase on the OPA website. These lessons meet the training requirements in Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 4729-5-40(K)(2). Pharmacists who have met the training requirements for administration of immunizations (OAC 4729-5-36) are not required to complete additional training in administration technique, if their previous training included the same injection techniques necessary to administer the dangerous drug.

Space is limited; OPA members have the first opportunity to register. CLICK HERE to Register.
