Pharmacy Student Legislative Day

The  OPA Pharmacy Student Legislative Day held on June 2, 2009 at the Vern Riffe Center in Columbus, Ohio, was a huge success.  Over 50 students and faculty from colleges of pharmacy across Ohio came to Columbus to participate in this first-time event. The students spent the morning learning about current legislative issues that affect the practice of pharmacy, and listened to a presentation from Renee Himes, an OSU Pharmacy student, on starting a letter writing campaign. After lunch the students had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with their state representative and their state senator.

The student reaction to the first pharmacy student legislative day was overwhelmingly positive. Read some of their comments below.

"I just wanted to let you know how great I thought the day went yesterday. It was a great experience and I truly enjoyed it and felt truly empowered."  Mara Weber - The Ohio State University, College of Pharmacy

"I wanted to express how much of a learning experience this event was.  I believe that this legislative day would be beneficial to all student pharmacists."  David Prospal - The Ohio State University, College of Pharmacy

"I truly enjoyed my experiences at the OPA Legislative Day.  As someone who does not know much about legislation, this experience was a huge eye-opener and easily captured my interest. "  Lisa Samaroo - University of Toledo College of Pharmacy

"I would definitely attend it next year. Student Legislative Day is an excellent opportunity for students to impact legislation. I did not realize until after my meeting and the debriefing that my thoughts are important and my presence as well as all the other students that came got our Representatives talking."  Andrea Stan - Ohio Northern University-Raabe College of Pharmacy
