OPA's goal is to protect the practice of pharmacy and be a valuable resource for pharmacists and student pharmacists in Ohio. Each year OPA offers a weekend full of continuing education, innovation, and social events that are great for enhancing your classroom learning and practice skills, while offering networking opportunities. The 132nd Annual Conference & Trade Show was designed to meet these goals.

Antidepressants: A New Decade

Participants will learn about the various types of antidepressants including mono-amine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, mixed-action antidepressants, and serotonergic antidepressants. This presentation will emphasize the general clinical roles of these antidepressants.

Current information on nonprescription products, along with the rationale for product choices, will be presented at OPA's 4th annual "OTC and Self-Care Challenge:
Battle of the Colleges!" Join us for a highly interactive, fun-filled session that will enhance your OTC expertise and update your knowledge of common self-care conditions. Both students and alumni will join in the friendly competition.

Clinical Use of Antiarrhythmic Medications

This session will discuss antiarrhythmic medications presently available, emphasizing clinical and practical issues associated
with their use. This session will also summarize the treatment of commonly occurring dysrhythmias. Case examples will be presented.

Pharmacists as Integral Partners in Health Care
APhA CEO Tom Menighan and Curt Black, R.Ph., Ph.D.
Learn how MTM and other important pharmacy issues are being shaped by APhA in cooperation with OPA and other state pharmacy associations. You will hear what progress is being made on a national level on critical pharmacy concerns, and expanding MTM in Ohio. Dr. Black will update you on pharmacist-provided MTM throughout the state in various pharmacy practice settings.

Medication Use in Pregnant and Breastfeeding Patients
Patricia R. Wigle, PharmD, BCPS
Determining appropriate medication use in pregnant and breastfeeding patients can be challenging. Pharmacists are in the unique position to recommend medications based on individual patient characteristics. This session will provide attendees with warning signs and symptoms which would warrant patient referral to a physician, factors which should be considered when making therapeutic recommendations for pregnant and breastfeeding patients, as well as nonpharmacologic interventions.

How to Open a Pharmacy

Are you interested in becoming a pharmacy owner? This program is designed to give an overview of the requirements and process of opening a new pharmacy from the ground up. Our speaker will cover a variety of topics including how to get started, how to finance the project, selection of location, licensing requirements, design, and marketing.

MDMA & Methamphetamine Mediated Hyperthermia
Jon E. Sprague, R.Ph., Ph.D.
Street knowledge about the chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology of the illicit street drugs 3,4 methylenedioxymeth-amphetamine (MDMA, Ecstasy) and methamphetamine
(Meth) continues to grow. Mobile meth labs are an easily recognizable display of the ease by which meth can be synthesized. This program is intended to be a review of the fundamental pharmacological and toxicological mechanisms of MDMA and Meth. Strategies for managing the sympathomimetic mediated hyperthermia will also be reviewed.

MTM Roundtable Conversations with the Experts

Moderator: Jennifer L. Rodis, PharmD BCPS
This session will provide participants the opportunity to ask questions of experts in various specialty areas of community pharmacy practice related to patient care and MTM. Come and explore the business aspects of patient-centered pharmacy services such as billing and marketing MTM services; strategies to enhance patient care for special populations, including pediatrics and those with limited financial resources; pharmacist care programs for employee health; and methods for utilizing pharmacy students and residents to enhance community
pharmacy practice.

SUNDAY, April 11

Update on New Drugs 2010

In this annual new drug update, our speaker will examine the pharmacology and therapeutics of the prescription medications released in the past year. The drugs' indications, drug interactions, adverse effects, as well as useful patient counseling tips, will be included.

Diabetes Self-Care
Tim Ulbrich, R.Ph., PharmD
While numerous prescription medications are available to treat both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, appropriate self-care is important to help a diabetic patient maintain good overall health. This session will review several aspects of diabetes self-care including self monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG), medical nutrition therapy (MNT), proper sick day management, and more.
